Stiebel Eltron says its range of heat pumps will include a new series operating on R454C next year
GERMANY Stiebel Eltron says it will introduce a series of heat pumps next year using lower GWP refrigerant R454C.
The German manufacturer says the new products will have better performance figures than before and at the same time enable high flow temperatures. As a result, the company says it will be ideal for the refurbishment market and for operation on radiator heating systems.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was the first to announce a range of heat pumps on R454C last year, and led with the announcement of the first residential split ac system on the lower GWP gas earlier this month.
R454C is said to be a close match to R22 based technology, and can also be used as an alternative to R404A. With a GWP 148, it is classified as an A2L “mildly flammable” gas.
In order to use the new refrigerant, Stiebel Eltron developed new cooling circuits. “We benefit greatly from being able to perform dynamic simulations of refrigeration circuits, thereby completing the refrigeration circuit design early in the development process,” said technical director Dr Kai Schiefelbein.
