Due to an increasing presence in the market, Johnson Controls will open an Asia-Pacific headquarters in Shanghai in June 2017.

The company’s footprint in China includes 15 manufacturing plants, two research and development facilities, 112 branches, 12,000 employees and channel partners across 200 cities. The company was recently recognized for its capabilities in China with the “Top Employer China” award for the sixth consecutive year.
Johnson Controls supports customer growth strategies through its world-class engineering, innovation and industrial design capabilities. The company operates local automotive design studios, global technical centers and engineering offices across China with full testing capabilities.

Energy storage opportunities
As the global leader in automotive batteries, Johnson Controls is well-positioned to help the Chinese automotive industry grow by offering solutions to meet increasingly strict fuel efficiency and emissions regulations.
The company’s automotive battery business has 14 million units of capacity to serve the China market, with more than 1,000 employees in two plants.
In May 2014, Johnson Controls signed a long-term automotive battery supply agreement with SAIC Motor Corporation Limited (SAIC Motor), a further indication of Johnson Controls’ commitment to expand rapidly in the Chinese market..
As China drives toward energy security, Johnson Controls’ Building Efficiency business is well-positioned to grow its HVAC product offerings, as well as energy efficiency and sustainable building solutions.
In early 2014, the Building Efficiency business opened a US$35 million expansion of its manufacturing and research and development center in Wuxi, China. The campus and its engineering center is now one of Johnson Controls’ largest R&D centers in the world for building heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Better buildings
Johnson Controls is committed to helping buildings reduce their environmental impact in the Asia-Pacific region. In August 2016, the company helped Chengdu IFS achieve the first LEED EBOM (Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance) certification in Southwest China. The complex includes a shopping mall, office buildings, a hotel and luxury residence and is designed to achieve energy efficiency 35 percent higher than average.
Opening in 2017, the Johnson Controls Headquarters Asia Pacific will house more than 1,200 employees and is set to receive China’s Three Star Green and LEED Platinum building certifications. The headquarters, located in Shanghai, China, has already been awarded the first design-phase EDGE certification for an office building in China from IFC-World Bank. It is expected to deliver 44 percent total energy savings, 42 percent water savings and 21 percent embodied energy in materials savings.
