Milan – It is estimated that over 50% of the world's population now lives in cities and urban areas. The ever growing cities play a crucial role in fulfilling the targets of the COP21 climate deal. And there is no reason to wait to take action. Technologies are already widely available to deliver more than one third of the required energy savings through energy efficient solutions.
"The COP21 climate deal marked an important milestone and we should take action immediately. Feasible solutions that meet EU regulations for increased energy efficiency and use of natural and low GWP refrigerants are already here, and we want to inspire decision-makers and communities to actually apply the technologies that would allow the growing cities to save energy and reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions", says Ernesto Ubieto, President, Danfoss South Europe Region.
The potential for increased energy efficiency in cities is immense. Buildings, for example, account for more than one third of global energy use today and are expected to contribute 45% of efficiency related CO2 reductions by 2040. The same goes for supermarkets or data centers where a lot of energy can be saved in the cooling process. Danfoss experience shows that energy savings by up to 50% can be obtained with smart store solutions and up to 40% applying energy saving solutions in residential and commercial buildings. At MCE 2016, Danfoss presents a wide range of forward-thinking technologies and solutions with vast potential to cut energy consumption and combat the challenges of climate change.
Discover how Danfoss is Engineering Tomorrow's Sustainable Cities
At the Danfoss stands – one for heating (Hall 7 - Stand G41 K42) and one for cooling and drives (Hall 22 - Stand S31 U40) – visitors can experience some of the most innovative and energy efficient technologies that can inspire urban efficiency within key applications:
In residential and commercial buildings, Danfoss Link™ electronic radiator thermostat solution allows homeowners to save on the energy bill and optimize the indoor climate of the home. At the same time, the NovoCon® 4in1 actuator offers solutions for perfect hydronic balancing of high-rise buildings.
Tailored to HVAC, refrigeration and water and waste water treatment systems, Danfoss presents leading-edge AC Drives solutions with potential to cut energy costs up to 30%. In January 2015, Danfoss and Vacon Drives joined forces to create one of the leading player’s worldwide in frequency converters for low and medium voltage AC motors, pushing the boundaries of innovative AC Drives technology that tackles climate change, helps cope with rapid urbanization and provides successful and sustained water and waste water management.
In chiller applications, our new range of fixed-speed Scroll compressors and the oil-free Turbocor VTT compressors deliver best-in-class full and part load efficiency. Components such as MPHE heat exchangers with improved heat transfer or electric expansion valve ETS Colibri® designed for precise liquid injection into evaporators also contribute to energy savings. In Close Control systems, where accurate cooling efficiency is needed, MCX programmable controllers and Inverter Scroll compressors VZH ensure optimum energy efficiency.
In supermarkets, the trend is on net-zero stores and the use of CO2 as refrigerant. With Smart Store solutions, integrated and optimized control of refrigeration, HVAC, light and smart grid integration, food retailers maximize energy efficiency and food safety. Ideal for food retail and convenience stores, Optyma™ Plus INVERTER provides both optimum cooling power and increased energy savings thanks to a Seasonal Efficiency Performance Ratio of 3.84 with R407F.
Meet the Experts
Ecodesign, F-gas regulation, other EU Directives and local regulation all impact public and private sector parties. At MCE 2016, visitors can meet Danfoss Heating, Cooling and Drives experts from Italy and abroad and get on top of recent trends and technologies attending short conferences.
In the afternoons, famous climatologist, meteorologist and Professor at Bicocca University in Milan Andrea Giulliaci will introduce climate change and the subsequent need to enhance energy efficiency in the Danfoss Heating booth, Hall 7 - Stand G41 K42.
"New energy efficiency regulations and government incentives to promote energy efficient solutions are a good example of how public and private sector parties work together to deliver and finance solutions for urban efficiency. We hope that our booths will be interesting meeting places for everybody involved in urban development, building design and solution providers" says Ernesto Ubieto.
