Maersk opens a new distribution center in Hamilton, New Zealand

Maersk, a global leader in transportation services, plans to open a new, state-of-the-art 45,000 sq. m distribution center at the end of 2023. m near Hamilton, New Zealand, which will be able to store more than 21,000 cars. pallets with cold chain products.

The new facility will have an area of more than 16,000 square meters. m of fully transformable rooms with adjustable temperatures from -25°C to 15°C.

As part of Maersk's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions, the new distribution center in Hamilton will be equipped with a state-of-the-art energy management system. This includes solar energy, rainwater harvesting, low carbon building policies and of course the Advansor climate solution, combining refrigeration, refrigeration, air conditioning and heating in one system based entirely on the natural and sustainable refrigerant CO2.

Heat recovery is used for defrosting, underfloor heating and hot water and helps reduce energy consumption, making the solution environmentally friendly and cost effective.

Compressors with permanent magnet motors have been added to each MT and IT compressor rack, providing an additional 7-8% energy savings.

The solution consists of 7 racks: three racks for the meat blast freezing process with an impressive capacity of 702 kW at a temperature of -45°C each and four racks for storing chilled products.

For logistical purposes, blast freezers are designed in sets of two, so that each module can be placed in 40-foot containers.

Maersk is committed to Science-Based Target Initiatives (SBTI) and aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Maersk's targets cover not only the ocean fleet, but also cover all direct and indirect emissions across Maersk's entire business.

Maersk and Advansor share a common vision to become carbon neutral. This was also one of the reasons why Maersk chose Advansor as a supplier for its new distribution center in Hamilton.
