National foodservice wholesaler Creed Foodservice has taken delivery of three 12-tonne rigid trucks fitted with the UK’s first Carrier Transicold Xarios 8 multi-temperature (MT) units.

The Carrier Transicold Xarios 8 MT units are fitted to DAF LF rigids supplied on a contract hire agreement with Petit Forestier, which are mounted with specialised bodies provided by Gray & Adams. The new Xarios 8 MT is the most powerful direct drive unit the company has ever built. Featuring an all-new underlying architecture, the lightweight system offers 55% more cooling capacity and 20% more heating capacity than previous models.

While other models in the range are traditionally specified for light commercial vehicles, the increased power of the new Xarios 8 MT now allows small to medium-sized trucks to benefit from the direct drive system. This removes the need for a standalone diesel engine and creates a lightweight, low-noise solution ideal for vehicles operating in urban areas.

The Xarios 8 MT unit helps customers save on fuel and operational maintenance costs, while improving sustainability through the reduction of overall fleet emissions. In addition, the use of innovative microchannel heat exchanger condenser technology results in a 40% decrease in Global Warming Potential (GWP) related to refrigerant usage versus equivalent diesel-powered systems. The innovative Xarios 8 MT units support Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goal to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton.

Creed’s new vehicles will operate five days a week, completing between eight to 15 deliveries a day both in and around central London and down to the Kent coast. They are based at Creed’s High Wycombe depot, with the company projecting that they will cover around 20,000km annually.
