The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has granted Bosch Commercial and Industrial approval to offer a new Continuing Professional Accreditation (CPD) course focused on ‘Heat Network Design Considerations’.
CIBSE said Bosch will now be able to deliver training concerning planning and implementing district heating at a time when government has prioritised the decarbonisation of how domestic properties are kept warm.
The approved course is intended to focus on topics such as domestic hot water requirements, the calculation of flow rates and selecting pipe sizes. It also will provide other expertise on fine tuning the design of heat networks at a time where government is also considering introducing a regulatory framework for such systems.
The course is primarily focused on looking at realising low carbon benefits from heating and is geared towards meeting the needs of contractors and designers as well as heat network investors, according to Bosch Commercial and Industrial.
The company said in a statement, “Focusing specifically on the design of small and medium sized heat networks, the course considers sizing principles for incorporating renewable and low carbon heat sources such as solar thermal and heat pump technologies.”
Bosch Commercial and Industrial technical operations manager Pete Mills said that an estimated 8 million people were expected to rely on heat networks by 2030. With the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) commiting to invest £320m of public money into supporting uptake of heat network technologies, he added that the course’s focus on low carbon innovations was timely.
Mr Mills said, “Our CPD course will provide investors, contractors and designers with valuable knowledge, practical experience and the skills needed to maximise the performance of a heat network.”
“Heat networks offer the potential for CO2 and energy savings, but poorly performing networks can often be traced back to poor design. The CIBSE CPD course provides delegates with the information necessary to design an efficient heat network that places the end-user at the heart of the design process.”
