Toshiba Carrier Corporation (TCC) announced that its discharge port structure for multi-cylinder rotary piston compressors for heat pumps technology was recently recognized at the 2023 National Invention Awards of Japan. The prestigious awards are sponsored by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation.

The technology allows an increased capacity and enhanced energy efficiency of refrigeration and HVAC equipment with its optimized structure of the discharge port to push out compressed refrigerant outside the cylinders for effectively minimizing issues such as discharge volume loss, pulsed discharge, and distorted rotating axis, which are commonly seen in high-capacity equipment.

The National Invention Awards of Japan, established in 1919 for driving innovations in science and technologies in Japan, recognizes exceptionable inventions, devices and designs that have generated or are expected to generate significant achievements.

“The invention is instrumental in high energy efficiency and low sound level while saving materials used with a smaller number of compressors and simplified piping design,” said Tsutomu Masamoto, leading Technology and Innovation in Japan, Global Comfort Solutions, Carrier. “This exemplifies our strong commitment to contributing to customers’ efforts in decarbonization and sustainable initiatives.”
