In Japan, Hoshizaki has started accepting orders for commercial-use CFC-free refrigerators from May 2022 and freezers from August 2022.
CFC alternatives do not deplete the ozone layer, but they are greenhouse gases with a very high global warming potential (GWP) of tens to over 10,000 times compared to carbon dioxide (CO²). For this reason, there is a growing international demand to switch from CFC substitutes to natural refrigerants.
"At Hoshizaki, we will add to our lineup this year as well, and by the end of 2024, we will change the refrigerant of all commercial refrigerator-freezers for the domestic market to CFC-free natural refrigerants. By giving consideration to the environment throughout the product life cycle, we contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions when our customers use our products. Natural refrigerant products are not covered by the Fluorocarbons Emissions Control Law, so we can expect to reduce the burden on those who introduce them," - said in company.
