Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 730,812 units in February 2022, up 14.6 percent from 637,772 units shipped in February 2021. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 16.9 percent, to 424,293 units, up from 363,045 units shipped in February 2021. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 11.6 percent, to 306,519 units, up from 274,727 units shipped in February 2021.
Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 12.4 percent, to 1,488,090 units, up from 1,323,698 units shipped during the same period in 2021. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 10.9 percent, to 856,128 units, up from 771,876 units shipped during the same period in 2021. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 14.5 percent, to 631,962, up from 551,822 units shipped during the same period in 2021.
Residential Storage Water Heaters
U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for February 2022 increased 5.4 percent, to 384,283 units, up from 364,503 units shipped in February 2021. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 15.4 percent in February 2022 to 412,414 units, up from 357,476 units shipped in February 2021.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters decreased 3.0 percent, to 739,293 compared to 761,845 shipped during that same period in 2021. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 6.7 percent year-to-date, to 803,417 units, compared to 753,116 shipped during the same period in 2021.
Commercial Storage Water Heaters
Commercial gas storage water heater shipments decreased 14.1 percent in February 2022, to 6,172 units, down from 7,185 units shipped in February 2021. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 33.3 percent in February 2022, to 7,197 units, down from 10,784 units shipped in February 2021.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters decreased 17.2 percent, to 11,445 units, compared with 13,827 units shipped during the same period in 2021. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 38.8 percent, to 13,788 units, down from 22,521 units shipped during the same period in 2021.
Warm Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for February 2022 decreased 2.6 percent, to 295,777 units, down from 303,654 units shipped in February 2021. Oil warm air furnace shipments increased 14.9 percent, to 2,948 units in February 2022, up from 2,565 units shipped in February 2021.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces decreased 8.5 percent, to 602,630 units, compared with 658,751 units shipped during the same period in 2021. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces decreased 6.8 percent, to 5,739 units, compared with 6,160 units shipped during the same period in 2021.
